Speaking ভালো করতে listening equally important। কেউ direction বা instruction দিলে key word ধরতে হয়, আর বুঝতে না পারলে clarification চাইতে হয়। এই lesson-এ listening directions, basic IPA awareness এবং clarification/suggestion phrases practice করব।
১. Direction-এর key words শুনুন
- on the left / on the right
- behind / in front of
- above / below
- next to / between
- at the top / at the bottom
- in the corner
Example: Draw a small circle in the top-right corner. Put a square below it. Draw a line between the two shapes.
২. Listening strategy
- প্রথমবার overall meaning শুনুন।
- দ্বিতীয়বার number, place, direction বা action word ধরুন।
- সব word বুঝতে না পারলেও key information লিখুন।
- শেষে নিজের understanding verify করুন।
৩. IPA কী?
IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) শব্দের sound দেখানোর একটি system। English spelling সবসময় pronunciation সরাসরি বলে না, তাই dictionary-তে IPA দেখলে unfamiliar word-এর sound বুঝতে সুবিধা হয়।
Beginner হিসেবে সব symbol মুখস্থ করার দরকার নেই। আগে common vowel/consonant sound চিনুন এবং dictionary audio-এর সঙ্গে মিলিয়ে practice করুন।
৪. বুঝতে না পারলে clarification চান
- Sorry, could you say that again?
- Could you speak a little more slowly?
- What do you mean by that?
- Do you mean …?
- Could you explain that in another way?
- Let me make sure I understood correctly.
৫. Suggestion দেওয়ার phrases
- Why don’t we…?
- How about…?
- We could…
- I suggest that we…
- Maybe we should…
Example: We’re running late. Maybe we should take a taxi.
৬. Workplace clarification example
A: Please send the final report before noon.
B: Sure. Just to clarify, do you mean the revised report with the updated figures?
A: Yes, exactly.
B: Got it. I’ll send it before 12.
৭. Common mistakes
❌ Please repeat again.
✅ Please repeat that. / Could you say that again?
❌ What means this?
✅ What does this mean?
❌ I suggest you to go early.
✅ I suggest going early. / I suggest that you go early.
৮. Practice
একজন partner-কে একটি simple picture না দেখিয়ে direction দিন—কোথায় house, tree, road বা sun আঁকতে হবে। Partner শেষে picture দেখাবে। তারপর 5টি clarification phrase জোরে বলুন।
